Expedition yachts may be a niche within a niche. But, more seem to be on order compared to previous years. That’s the impression, at least, from the number of press releases coming in. Different megayacht builders and designers use different terms to describe them, though they primarily alternate between expedition yacht and explorer.
When you look at the details of these new projects, however, you start to get a very different impression. Some of these yachts only look like expedition yachts. They’re not meant to explore the far-flung corners of the world. So then why are the descriptions of explorer or expedition yacht being used?
Our editor, Diane M. Byrne, shares her views on the subject in the September edition of the MegayachtNews.com newsletter. Judging from the emails we’ve received in response, she isn’t alone in her opinions.
Also in this month’s newsletter, we tell you about WAVEform, a company creating stainless steel sculptures inspired by the motion of ocean waves. Yacht owners are among the principal artist’s fans. And, you can find out how to win travel arrangements, including airfare, to the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in November.
