A six-year-old Moonen is in the midst of a major refit that, come its completion in June, should transform her into a practically new megayacht.
Moon River, an 84-footer launched as Moon Bels (pictured above), has been in the hands of her current owner for the past two years. Having gotten a good feel for her during that period, and having a commercial shipping background, he compiled a thorough list of various equipment upgrades and style enhancements to better suit his needs. So, last December, the steel-hulled Moon River was hauled out of the water at Moonen’s main yard in ’s-Hertogenbosch, Holland.
On the technical side, there isn’t a single system that isn’t being replaced or refurbished. For example, zero-speed stabilizers are being installed, making Moon River the first Moonen 84 to receive these. Going hand-in-hand with this installation is the inclusion of 28-kW gensets and an upgraded hydraulic system. Also being added: a new shore-power converter, anchoring system, and winches, as well as a completely new navigation and communication suite of electronics.
On the aesthetics side, Moonen’s Inoferro division is doing new stainless steel work, and the yard is additionally modifying the flying-bridge layout to better meet both the relaxation and tender-stowage needs. (Hopefully the arch-supported mast, the only one on the eight megayachts comprising the 84 series to date, will remain the same.) New teak decking will be laid down as well, and of course Moon River will receive a repaint. Inside, Art-Line Interiors is replacing fabrics and other soft goods.
After relaunch, Moon River will embark on a summer cruise of Dutch and Scandinavian waters.
