You’ll have to watch until near the end of this brief video to see “Golden Odyssey,” but it’s the confirmation yacht watchers have been awaiting. The 404-footer (123-meter), nearing delivery at Lürssen, has the words visible on her transom. In the same shots, you can see two sweeping staircases, complete with teak railings, leading down to the swim platform.
Golden Odyssey has been kept under a publicity embargo by Lürssen while in build. Therefore, the few details we have about her are gleaned from publicly available data such as AIS. Golden Odyssey should have a beam of 65’6” (20 meters). As you would expect of a mega-size megayacht, volume is also tremendous: 7,600 gross tons. And don’t even raise the question as to her range; surely she can cross an ocean or perhaps two without refueling.
Due to the yacht’s name being Golden Odyssey, we also now know who the owner is. He’s Prince Khaled bin Sultan bin Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia. The prince is well-known in yachting circles for owning a 263-footer (80.15-meter) christened Golden Odyssey in 1990. She was built by Blohm+Voss and has remained in his hands ever since. These days, she’s known as Golden Odyssey II, likely due to the new Golden Odyssey’s delivery coming soon, and is listed for sale for $39.995 million. Some additional quick facts about the 1990 build: She has two master suites, an aquarium in her formal dining room, and accommodations for 14 in the owner’s party. Golden Odyssey II has also spent significant time cruising around the world in support of the prince’s interest in ocean research. He established a non-profit called the Living Oceans Foundation. We interviewed him four years ago about the Foundation, in fact, a story you can read here.
Other videos and photos have been taken of the new Golden Odyssey in recent months. However, her name was not visible in them. It’s still obscured to some degree in the video below, on her starboard side. You can see a covering over the nameplate, with “Tatiana” printed on the cover. This is the first time we’ve seen “Golden Odyssey” clearly visible.
