Love was in the air last week when Amore Mio was christened by her owners at Heesen Yachts. The 148-footer (45-meter) was known as Project Necto during construction.
While tailored inside to her owners’ tastes, two other things particularly set Amore Mio apart. One is her speed: Heesen anticipates her twin MTUs permitting a 30-knot top end under light load. While performance is a Heesen hallmark, it’s still a sight to see a megayacht making her way across the horizon at this clip. The second factor extra worthy of note is a man-overboard system developed by her build captain. Spread over Amore Mio’s decks are buttons that any guest or crewmember can press in case of an emergency. They open hatches that permit inflatable, eminently visible life rings to drop. They further sound alarms in the wheelhouse and crew area and send a signal to Amore Mio’s chartplotter, marking the location. Quick reaction saves lives in any situation, of course. But it’s particularly critical for a fast yacht like Amore Mio, considering she could be going at a swift pace at night.
Amore Mio will keep a more leisurely pace at times, too. Best range should come at 12 knots: 2,750 nautical miles. It’s plenty to explore multiple Caribbean islands after delivery in January. The owners and guests, accommodated in a total of five staterooms, have a modern decor to enjoy. Flamed American walnut dominates, even on the treads of the stairs visible in the saloon. Sculpted, lacquered panels are inset into doors for special effect. Cristiano Gatto worked with the owners to incorporate limestone embedded with fossils for various areas, too. And, he convinced Loro Piana to create a marine-specific material that’s used throughout Amore Mio.
The 27’6” beam should feel particularly commodious on the uppermost deck. It comprises about 969 square feet (90 square meters) of sunning, dining, and cooking areas. As for the latter, Amore Mio has a teppanyaki grill here.
If anyone overindulges at dinner, there’s room to do yoga or other exercises up here, too. To burn even more calories, the owners and guests can take out the waterscooters and a mahogany Boesch tender.
