Speed-loving owners are getting their first taste of life aboard Amore Mio. The 148-foot (45-meter) megayacht has been handed over by Heesen Yachts, following sea trials where she reportedly clocked 30 knots—and no spilled coffee.
To be clear, the coffee cups weren’t being monitored at that just-mentioned top speed. But, Amore Mio’s captain did pay attention to them when he tested the stabilizers during sea trials. Amore Mio was under light load, too, especially noteworthy: “I was eager to see in particular how the gyro stabilizers would function on such a buoyant ship in the North Sea,” Capt. Tripp Hock says. No china was broken in the process, he adds. He also says he had Amore Mio put under single-engine maneuvers and crash stops, to really prove her mettle.
These tests were key, since Amore Mio was designed to be both fast and responsive. Her twin MTUs confirmed the anticipated 30-knot max speed in seas that weren’t particularly challenging, but certainly not flat calm. Heesen says the waves ranged from about 1’6” to just over three feet (0.5 to 1 meter). Amore Mio should also see a 2,750-nautical-mile range at 12 knots. That suits island hopping in the Caribbean and all-season-long Med cruising.
The owners’ party of 10 have a modern decor to enjoy, created by Cristiano Gatto. Flamed American walnut paneling, sculpted and lacquered panels inset into doors, and limestone embedded with fossils set the scene. The 27’6” (8.4-meter) beam should feel particularly commodious on the uppermost deck. It comprises about 969 square feet (90 square meters) of sunning, dining, and cooking areas. As for the latter, Amore Mio has a teppanyaki grill here.
