#C4Cyachtdonations Gathers Gently Used Superyacht Linens & Uniforms for Needy Kids

In 2011, Chances for Children established to sponsor orphans in Uganda. Because of the founders’ ties to yachting, they created the #C4Cyachtdonations initiative. It seeks donations of gently used towels, sheets, crew uniforms, and other items no longer wanted or needed.

Registered in Monaco and the UK as a charitable organization, Chances for Children is run by Gabrielle and Russell Crump. Russell Crump is the sales director at Hill Robinson Yacht Management and two decades’ experience in the superyacht sector. The charity runs a home in the city of Kampala for 55 children, ages six to 18. They were living in slums, hospitals, and even churches, and now attend private school. The #C4Cyachtdonations idea sprang from seeing how yachts give away gently used items season after season. “When people are paying hundreds of thousands of euros a week to stay onboard, they expect everything to look new,” Gabrielle Crump explains. “It seemed so logical to get these things sent somewhere they can really go to good use.”

Besides collecting towels and sheets, #C4Cyachtdonations is seeking crew uniforms as well as other clothing and shoes. Furthermore, medical kits and toiletries are welcome, too. Every item goes to Uganda via a London-based shipping company, which handles customs clearances.

So far, Burgess, Fraser Yachts, Camper & Nicholsons, Northrop & Johnson, Superyachts Monaco, and YachtZoo are supporting the initiative via their fleets. Of course, Hill Robinson is as well. YachtZoo says, “We believe that nobody in our industry thought that such contribution could make many children happy and reduce the waste that we are all fighting.” Burgess echoes the sentiment. It adds, “Burgess is hugely aware of its social responsibilities and welcomes the opportunities that our privileged position places on us.”

To arrange a donation, contact Gabrielle Crump. “It’s critical that people understand that every euro or donation goes to the kids, and we don’t take administration fees,” she emphasizes. If you do donate, you can receive a photo of your items upon arrival and how the children are using them. You will additionally get a thank-you note directly from the children.
