If wetting a line from a 260-square-foot (24-square-meter) cockpit makes you happy, you can own one of the world’s biggest sportfishermen. She’s Blank Check, and due to her owner’s change of plans, she’s for sale at Jarrett Bay Boatworks.
The 84-foot (25.6-meter) Blank Check began her build the way that all Jarrett Bays do: via cold-molded construction. The photo above, from 2013, reveals her hull’s beginnings. The North Carolina builder starts with fir, renowned for its impact-resistance. The builder also uses Okoume planking for the sides. Boatbuilders (furniture makers, too) select this African hardwood because it lends itself well to curves—particularly the famous Carolina flare. Okoume is also well suited to receiving yacht-quality finishes. Adhesives hold the veneers tightly together. Ultimately, knitted fiberglass cloth covers the wood structures.
With completion coming next spring, Blank Check is from an experienced owner. He commissioned a 77-foot sportfisherman from Jarrett Bay bearing the same name in 2010, delivered in 2013. Speak with regulars on the fishing-tournament circuit, and surely they’ll know the yacht. In fact, she probably beat out some of them on the leaderboard. So, expect the new Blank Check and her twin 2,600-hp MTU 16V 2000s to have no issue backing down on big game. Also expect her to have no issue taking you to far-flung fishing grounds, given 4,000 gallons of fuel.
Currently, the engines and stabilizers are in place. So, too, is her superstructure. Cabinetry creation has been going on for a while as well, with Blank Check getting a high-gloss cherry interior. She features five staterooms, all en suite as you’d expect. Also as you’d expect, a day head sits on the main deck. The 21’8” (6.6-meter) beam should make family trips or post-fishing relaxation more enjoyable.
It’s worth adding that Blank Check was the biggest Jarrett Bay upon contract signing. She’s now the second-largest, thanks to the 90-foot Project Ireland.
