Three months after bankruptcy liquidation ended its electric boat and tender production, X Shore is back in business. New ownership is pledging to keep the Sweden-based builder stronger financially.
Last week on its website and social media channels, the company indicated that boatbuilding operations had returned in Nyköping. Simultaneously, the company began outreach to global dealers and customers. In a statement, René Hanson, the former CEO who remains in place, says long-term growth is the objective. “This period has been about stabilizing the business,” he says. “Now the focus is on execution.” Additionally, Hanson says, “We are building on what has already been proven, and addressing what needed to be fixed.”
Solid financial footing was one of the biggest issues. Xshore Production, the parent company for the boatbuilder, filed for insolvency in October 2025. Unpaid rent on the manufacturing site totaled 17 million Swedish krona ($1.9 million at the time). This followed multiple rounds of funding from investors for product development. Despite a court-appointed administrator seeking offers for the business by November, none materialized by the deadline.

However, a company belonging to Norwegian entrepreneur Staale Reiersen acquired the manufacturing site and inventory in January of this year. According to NKP M&A Insights, which shares propriety mergers and acquisition information in advance of traditional media, the total expenditure was 11 million Swedish krona ($1.193 million). At the time, Reirsen’s company revealed it planned to switch its attention toward water taxis and fishing boats and therefore away from recreational yachting. However, Hanson’s statement and the social media posts reveal a return to the original focus.
Now that X Shore is back in business, Hanson adds, it can provide customers and dealers with spare parts and service. It will do so on a structured basis, too. He also says that the goal is to continue advancing the technological backbone of the boats based on real-world experience. “Our ambition is simple: To support you, deliver on our commitments, and continue to drive the transition to electric boating,” Hanson asserts.
Konrad Bergström, who founded X Shore in 2016, is no longer associated with the company.
