A veteran of the superyacht industry is supporting Turquoise Yachts sales and after-sales efforts in the United States. Thom Conboy (pictured, center) is further representing the Turkish shipyard across North and South America.
Conboy’s career in the yachting business crosses continents and decades—specifically, four decades and Europe, North America, and South America. Through it all, he worked directly for owners as a captain and spent significant time on the business side, too. Most recently he was the American representative for Heesen Yachts. He’s also a longtime yacht broker. Additionally, Conboy headed the Intermarine Savannah shipyard for a decade, prior to it becoming Safe Harbor Savannah Yacht Center. Overall, Conboy has advised owners in new builds, brokerage buys, and refits of megayachts to 344 feet (105 meters).
“I am honored to be joining Turquoise Yachts at a time when the shipyard is showcasing its strength across a number of landmark projects,” he says. They include the recently launched yacht Angelique, which made history (above). She’s the largest contract so far for the builder, as well as the largest private yacht from any Turkish builder. LOA: 288 feet (88 meters). Volume is 2,550 gross tons, equally significant.
Burak Akgül, Turquoise’s CEO (left at top, with shipyard owner Mohammed Al Barwani to the right), particularly calls attention to Conboy’s years of experience in the industry. “Having known and respected Thom for so many years from afar, it is a real privilege to have his deep-rooted market knowledge and presence accompany Turquoise’s further growth in the Western Hemisphere,” he says. Akgül adds that the shipyard sees not just the longstanding affinity for yachting in the United States. In fact, he believes there’s “burgeoning opportunity in the South” portion of the Americas. “A seasoned industry figure of Thom’s credentials is a unique opportunity for us to grow further,” he asserts.
