Heesen Yachts has its roots in lightweight, swift yachts, dating back to 1978. While series builds have played a large part in its growth, the Dutch shipyard is increasingly taking on custom-superyacht projects. In fact, from one fitted with a patented structural support known as “the Backbone” to a yacht with a fishing cockpit and an astounding 22,000-hp engine package, Heesen is challenging traditional ideas of what large luxury yachts can do.
In this episode of our podcast series Megayacht News Radio, our editor Diane M. Byrne speaks with two key members of the Heesen sales and management team, Mark Cavendish (above left) and Thom Conboy (above right). (Click the images to enlarge.) During the conversation, you’ll learn:
- how Heesen has evolved, and is continuing to evolve
- how it balances customers’ desires for yachts with a proven technical package against other customers’ desires to push the notion of what is possible
- the risks and rewards of concept designs, especially ones that are fundamentally unlike any other
- and more.
