Feadship Yacht Project 1012 to Test Her 5,500-Mile Range

Sea trials will soon begin for the Feadship yacht Project 1012, a partially confidential custom commission by a repeat customer. Notably, the megayacht is the builder’s first to receive full hybrid electric classification.

The 301-footer (92-meter) has been under tight wraps publicity-wise since contract signing. The only prior visible sign came in December 2022, when the hull for Project 1012 transferred to Feadship’s Makkum yard for outfitting. At the time, Feadship couldn’t disclose details about her. Now, however, several facts about her design and engineering are available.

Particularly interesting, as stated, this is the first Feadship with full hybrid electric class notation. Specifically, the Feadship yacht Project 1012 has twin diesel MTU engines with traditional shafts and propellers, paired with two electric motors. A large-capacity battery bank is aboard, too, with a 1,029-kWh capacity. The electric motors are PTO/PTI motors, meaning “power take-off” and “power take-in.” Briefly, in PTO mode, these engines operate as shaft gensets, to transfer some of the engines’ mechanical power to a battery bank or to run the yacht’s hotel loads. In PTI mode, meanwhile, the electric motors can handle low-speed maneuvers, with the batteries or traditional gensets powering electrical needs.

The engineering for this setup came from Feadship’s own De Voogt Naval Architects, while styling and interiors are from Sinot Yacht Design & Architecture. The owner’s own designer (not disclosed) further contributed to the interior design. Complementing the contemporary-classic profile, the interior areas are family-focused, cozy spaces. These include the guest staterooms, all of which sit on the main deck—as do staff cabins, too. (Additionally notable, the staff cabins have the same luxury finishes as the guest staterooms.) A family lounge complements a wellness area on an upper deck, while the owners’ suite is on an upper deck as well.

Of course, some spaces aboard are pretty significant. Particularly, the owner wanted a more ample beach club than the one aboard his prior yacht. It therefore occupies 1,776 square feet (165 square meters) with the side and aft platforms all lowered. In fact, Feadship says even in its closed-up arrangement, the beach club represents one-quarter of the entire lower deck.

With two 33-foot (10-meter) tenders, a waterskiing boat, and a variety of watertoys, the Feadship yacht Project 1012 also provides a big pool for guests on her aft deck.
