Taiwan’s Paragon Motor Yachts will debut a 100-foot SkyMaster megayacht at this fall’s Fort Lauderdale boat show. She’s currently in build for a repeat client.
If you’re not familiar with Paragon Motor Yachts, there’s an interesting story behind it. The founder, Scott Robinson, served as a yacht captain for more than 25 years. As such, he was involved in the bid, build, and operation of a few megayachts. In the late 1990s, he decided to create his own boatbuilding brand. He assembled a team of naval architects, engineers, designers, and consultants, focusing on the 80- to 100-foot range (24.4- to 30.5-meter range). In 2001, Robinson constructed a shipyard in Kaohsiung, Taiwan that’s ISO 9001 certified. The facility, called American Pacific Boatworks, is reportedly the only yacht builder in Taiwan that is both American-owned and -operated. All Paragon Motor Yachts megayachts are constructed of fiberglass. Carbon fiber is further used in some components. In addition, all Paragon Motor Yachts projects are built to ABS, though RINA and MCA standards can be met on request. Five megayachts have been delivered to date.
The SkyMaster gets her name from the configuration of the superstructure. Paragon Motor Yachts also calls her a Bahama SkyMaster, looking and feeling airy like a Bahamian house. That sensation comes from the rows of vertical ports lining the main deck and upper deck. The upper deck further has a huge aft-facing port, right by a stone-topped bar.
The eight people in the owner’s party can further enjoy a good-size cockpit aboard the SkyMaster. Much like West Coast sportfishing boats, it has a mezzanine level. While wetting of lines may never take place here on the SkyMaster, good conversation and relaxation surely will. The main cockpit contains a barbecue and wetbar. Should someone wish to fish, an ice chipper and chiller are also included. Come bedtime, the owner gets a king-size stateroom. Two guest staterooms also feature kings. The last guest stateroom has a queen plus a bunk.
Many megayachts tow their tenders, and the SkyMaster will be no different. She’s engineered to tow a center console. Dedicated stowage for the boat’s line is included to both port and starboard inside the cockpit. The center console can further be fueled from the SkyMaster, due to a gas tank and pump.
Paragon Motor Yachts has not revealed the anticipated best cruise or top speed for the SkyMaster. However, the yacht will be handled by three crew and a captain.
