Well, yesterday’s kickoff of the Monaco Yacht Show went quite well–so well, in fact, that I unfortunately ran out of energy to post an update. (Ah, the life of a journalist who has more yachts to see than there are hours in a day.) Rather than tell you about the most exclusive insider news, I thought I’d share details of how Moonen Shipyards went up in smoke.
No, the builder’s not out of business, it just got creative. Midafternoon yesterday a skywriter recreated its double-o logo (the two o’s in “Moonen” interlock). But it wasn’t just any skywriter, it was actually an aerobatic airplane that’s among the competitors in the annual Red Bull Air Race, in which pilots aim to do the most spectacular stunts within limited time frames. The smoky double-o was visible all over the show–indeed, all over from the surrounding villages, as the sky was clear blue.
