When I attended the recent Yacht & Brokerage Show, I made a point of getting onboard the 157-foot Lady Joy, even though I’d already toured her last fall and done a podcast with her owner, Denise Rich. Rich is probably known for her political prowess as much as she is for her songwriting and fund-raising abilities. But she also loves the yachting lifestyle, so I wanted to capture the (pardon the pun) joy the Christensen-built megayacht reflects. While on occasion people complain–rightfully so, in some case–that many semicustom yachts end up looking alike and lack the individuality of custom yachts, Lady Joy definitely has her own exuberant personality. Sure, the high-gloss cherrywood onboard can also be found on other 157 Series Christensens, but not the big, bold, often wall-size artwork that grabs your attention in each room.
Let this brief video inspire other megayacht owners, semicustom and custom customers alike, to let their hair down and have fun with their boats. Because isn’t that what this business is all about?
