Today’s the first day of the Yacht & Brokerage Show, where more than 500 yachts and megayachts are packed cheek to jowl (bowrail to bowrail?) along Miami Beach’s Indian Creek Waterway. Despite the economic slowdown, plenty of builders and gear companies are launching new models, and based on reports from shows held the past several months both stateside and overseas, serious buyers are still around and, even better, still willing to spend.
Tomorrow and into next week, I’ll give you the rundown on the biggest news from the show, including a super-secret project from Lazzara Yachts, a “Megayacht News Onboard” feature on the new 92-footer from Vicem, one on Hargrave’s Sea Legend (pictured), another on Christensen Shipyards’ Primadonna, and even a feature on the 82 Convertible from Viking Yachts. The 82, by the way, is the largest sportfisherman in Viking’s history, and even more noteworthy, she’s been defying the odds when it comes to both production boats and “small” yachts over the past year, having garnered upwards of a dozen orders even before being finished.
Here’s to a good show for all.
