A few months ago I introduced you to the work of Robert H. Eddy & Associates, expert yacht-model makers based in Maine. Eddy and his team have hand-crafted more than 30 models since the 1970s, including ones of Maltese Falcon, Hyperion, Schererazade, Andromeda la Dea, Mariette, and Atlantide. Each is painstakingly detailed, right down to the deck gear and propellers, which he casts in gold. The hulls and deckhouses are carved of basswood and mahogany, respectively.
Eddy is presently a few weeks away from finishing his latest project, seen in the slideshow here. She’s a model of the 98-foot ketch Windcrest. Built by Hodgdon Yachts and designed by Fontaine Design Group, Windcrest was delivered in 2006. On an interesting side note, the ketch marked the 406th vessel in her builder’s history. Windcrest also finished second in her class and third in the fleet in the 2007 St. Barth’s Bucket.
Eddy is always on the lookout for more projects and tells me, “We actually have a time slot available for new projects, which we have not had available for the past eight years.” Interested parties can contact him via his website or send Eddy an email.
