A British buyer accustomed to cruising at least one third of the year has signed a contract for Cantiere delle Marche’s first Darwin Class 107. The yacht joins the existing Darwin Class 86, 90, 96, and 115 megayacht models, all from the drawing boards of Hydro Tec.
The deal was closed rather quickly, according to Cantiere delle Marche’s sales director, Vasco Buonpensiere. He says the conversation started at last month’s Cannes Boat Show (where the shipyard was also exhibiting Stella di Mare, the first Darwin Class 96). In the ensuing weeks, the owner and his captain finalized specifications with the shipyard. The Darwin Class 107 will have features found on the full lineup of megayachts, such as independent rudders and steel plate thickness that exceeds class requirements.
Of course, the owner of the Darwin Class 107 is also customizing the layout and interior design of his yacht. Wisely, given the extensive cruising he and his family typically do, the crew’s quarters will be spacious, and technical areas (not just the engine room) will be made to be quite accessible.
