Modern machinery makes yacht maneuvers easier. But it’s still impressive to watch a captain spin a yacht essentially in place. It’s even more impressive to see a 403-footer (123-meter) move as if she were a bathtub toy. Yacht spotter and videographer Dr. Duu captured Al Lusail making it look like child’s play this past weekend.
Al Lusail, a.k.a. project Jupiter, is one of the most highly watched yachts set for delivery this year. Upon hand-over from Lürssen, she’ll be among the 20 largest megayachts in the world. With a beam of 65’6” (20 meters), she’ll surely have voluminous interior and alfresco spaces as well. While few facts are available, H2 Yacht Design is the stylist. March & White, meanwhile, is working with the owner on the interior, which reflects a diverse overall feel. It includes inventive finishes.
Skip ahead to the 52-second mark in the video below to see Al Lusail approach Lürssen on her return from sea trials. A variety of people are moving about among her towering decks, putting her dimensions into fuller perspective.
Al Lusail makes her big move, though, around the two-minute mark. As she does, take notice of her name on her transom, displayed in Arabic.
On a related note, take note, too, of how the crewmembers standing on the swim platform are all wearing inflatable PFDs. Far too frequently over the past year, we and other members of the yachting media see crewmembers taking risks. While no one anticipates an accident happening, they’re called accidents for a reason. Hats off to the crew for properly practicing safety.
