Earlier today, Feadship did something it has never done. In fact, it did something that, to our knowledge, no megayacht shipyard has ever done. Over a nearly two-hour period, it livestreamed the launch of one of its builds, the code-named Project 818. If you missed it, you’re not out of luck. The entire launch process is available for watching on YouTube.
The 253’4″ (77.25-meter) megayacht has been under construction at the Feadship Royal Van Lent shipyard in La Kaag, The Netherlands. Few facts are public, unfortunately. She should, however, have a beam around 36 feet (11 meters), with styling by Jarkko Jamsen. Part of that styling includes a plumb bow, as the photo below and video reveal see.
If you have the time, you can watch the full recording, embedded below. Short of time? No problem. We have the highlights:
- Skip ahead to the 10-minute mark to see Project 818 slowly start inching backwards out of the construction shed. Shortly thereafter, a tug arrives to tow her about two-thirds of the way out.
- 47:30: a crane to starboard begins lifting her navigation mast, for fitting atop the yacht; the actual attachment, however, takes place off camera.
- 57:25: mast in place, the yacht prepares for the rest of the launch process
- 58:45: Project 818 restarts inching out
- 1:08 her bow starts clearing the last of the launch bay extensions
- 1:11:11 two tugs continue maneuvering her completely clear of the launch bay.
Feadship plans to unveil additional information when the official launch takes place. This information includes details about what Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design created for the interior.
