Luna may make you think of nighttime, but it was morning (yesterday morning, specifically) when this new megayacht, the second hull in Benetti’s Crystal 140 semi-custom series, slipped into the water.
Like the first Benetti Crystal 140, which launched in 2010, Luna measures 137’6” (41.93 meters) and has a beam of 29’7” (9.05 meters). Unlike other semi-custom craft from other megayacht builders, Luna is not intended for speedy cruising. Rather, she emphasizes long range, a reported 4,000 nautical miles at 12 knots. Top speed is said to be 15 knots, with power coming from twin Caterpillar C32 ACERTs.
That leisurely cruising complements a layout that was intended to make the most of the outdoors, whether on deck or inside. A handful of dining areas are scattered from the megayacht’s sundeck down to the main deck, for example, and of course sunning areas are on the sundeck, too. The sundeck is a mostly open area, with a small hardtop—but the hardtop is fitted with a sliding sunroof, so it can become even more open. Stefano Righini graced the Benetti Crystal 140 series with large windows along both sides, which should encourage Luna’s and guests to take in the views while in the saloon.
Luna accommodates 10 guests in five staterooms (the owner’s suite, two double staterooms, and two twin staterooms). Specifics haven’t been released on decor materials used. Other details that are known, however, are that Luna also has an unusual tender garage. Rather than simply being stowage for watertoys that can convert to a beach club once the crew adds a few chairs, the transom houses both. The garage is a bit farther forward than usual, with side launching for the toys. That frees up the full aft area for the beach club, furnished with armchairs and additionally outfitted with a full head, a changing room, and even a small galley.
Luna should begin her cruising schedule shortly. Benetti even held a delivery party for the owner and his guests last evening.
