The family that founded megayacht builder Mondo Marine in 1978 has sold it to a fellow Italian entrepreneur.
Mondo Marine, which was established by Ferruccio and Elio Stroppiana, has always been part of the Mondo Group, a company dating back to 1948 and focused mostly on the manufacturing of synthetic track and field flooring and toys. The Stroppianas formally sold Mondo Marine, which builds custom steel and aluminum megayachts measuring 131 feet (40 meters) and up, on May 30 to Alessandro Falciai. Falciai is the owner of Millenium Partecipazioni, a Milan-based holding company with interests in telecommunications infrastructure and which has initiated previous mergers and acquisitions.
Falciai acquired the Mondo Marine name and megayacht production site in Savona, which encompasses more than 376,737 square feet (35,000 square meters), 102,257 square feet (9,500 square meters) being under cover. Mondo Marine also has an 820-ton TraveLift, among the largest in the Mediterranean region.
According to a statement issued by Mondo Marine, Falciai will become a member of the board. Roberto Zambrini, appointed as CEO in 2012, will remain in his position. Furthermore, Denison Yacht Sales, which has been assisting Mondo Marine in making more inroads into the American market in particular, remains as its sales representative.
