American and Asian megayacht buyers are the target markets for a new semi-custom series from Columbus Yachts. It’s the Oceanic Coupé series, so far comprised of the Oceanic Coupé 45m (148 feet), pictured above, and the Oceanic Coupé 50m (164 feet).
The Oceanic Coupé series features all-aluminum construction and design by Studio Vafiadis, stemming from a concept by Stefano Inglese Vafiadis. Columbus considers the design akin to a crossover automobile: blending disparate styles. In this case, the Oceanic Coupé series mixes aggressive lines with soft ones and the expansive alfresco areas of open yachts with the interior volumes of traditional motoryachts.
With both the Oceanic Coupé 45m and Oceanic Coupé 50m, some areas are open to reconfiguring. The upper deck, for example, can be one open space or include the captain’s cabin. If the former layout is desired, the captain’s cabin goes below decks. In addition, the galley can be on the main deck or lower deck. Americans will surely opt for a main-deck placement, while Asian buyers may want the latter configuration. The one caveat for the lower-deck location: smaller staterooms.
Still another option for the Oceanic Coupé 45m and Oceanic Coupé 50m: a gym, spa, or cinema room below decks. One of the four planned guest staterooms would instead serve this purpose. Either way, though, the megayachts have a beach club and a main-deck owner’s suite.
Columbus Yachts is offering a standard MTU propulsion package to permit a 21-knot top speed and 17-knot cruise. It expects the Oceanic Coupé series to enjoy a range of 3,800 nautical miles at a few knots lower than cruise speed. Alternately, Columbus Yachts will equip the megayachts with diesel-electric propulsion. That’s because its parent company, Palumbo Shipyard, has worked with Siemens, a leading name in the sector.
