The 151-foot (46-meter) Eight returned home to CRN a decade after delivery for a refit, handed back to her owners just in the past several days.
Eight, originally launched as Saramour in 2005, was kept under wraps for much of the recent yard period. The specifics of the refit have also been kept quiet. CRN revealed Eight’s presence at the yard with a brief announcement about her relaunch in late May. As part of that announcement, Lamberto Tacoli, the chairman and CEO, said, “This is an important and strategic moment for our shipyard, as it marks the first step along a new development path, the refitting of CRN yachts, which we believe can be an interesting opportunity for our company’s future.” These were the first public comments from the shipyard about its entry into the refit side of the business. Back in January, though, CRN’s management team met with its unions to present a reorganization plan that included exploring refits.
Eight bears styling by Nuvolari-Lenard and retains her original twin Caterpillar engines. Her interior, from her five lower-deck guest staterooms to her upper-deck lounge, is reportedly restrained while remaining refined. While photos are not available, the look does sound like a marked difference from when Eight was Saramour. Saramour’s owner had an extensive art collection and designed each space aboard to pay homage to the paintings, sketches, and sculptures situated there. A wide mix of woods, tones, and textures was used, too. While certainly not a busy decor, it wasn’t entirely reserved, either.
Also of note: Eight was the second hull of a then-new semi-custom series for CRN.
