Surely you’ve read about myriad personal submarines meant for taking along onboard your yacht. Seeing photos online and in magazines, plus seeing the subs in person at yacht shows help. But it’s a whole other ballgame to experience a dive. U-Boat Worx is now giving us all a virtual taste of the experience aboard its Super Yacht Sub 3. It’s the first personal submarine designed purposely for the megayacht market.
Indeed, the Super Yacht Sub 3 was designed to stow inside tender garages. The dimensions are about 10 feet x 8 feet x 5’7” (315 x 241 x 172 centimeters). Total footprint: 81.8 square feet (7.6 square meters). While the sub debuted at the Monaco Yacht Show last year, U-Boat Worx withheld photos until after the event. Since then, it’s been filming excursions to show what the sub can do.
Specifically, the Super Yacht Sub 3 can carry you, a friend, and a trained pilot down various depths. (U-Boat Worx offers two- to three-week training programs.) The sub is available in 100-, 200-, or 300-meter depth ratings. (Those equate 328-, 656-, and 984-foot depths.) If you want to go really deep, consider the underwater lights option. Treasure hunters among you will want the manipulator arm, which you’ll get to see in action in the video below.
Regardless of your choice, the sub can stay submerged for eight hours before battery recharging becomes necessary. It also operates off a standard air compressor. In addition, you can check out sea life at 2.8 knots. The Super Yacht Sub 3 is capable of that speed on the water’s surface, too.
U-Boat Worx constructs the Super Yacht Sub 3 to Det Norske Veritas-Germanischer Lloyd classification. The company arranges yearly certification and can make the sub compliant with flag state rules as well.
