The renderings here will become the real thing shortly, as the first Super Yacht Sub 3 is nearly completion U-Boat Worx. You’ll get a chance to see it at next month’s Monaco Yacht Show.
The “3” in the model name refers to the passenger capacity, a pilot and two guests. As for the rest of the name, well, U-Boat Worx designed the personal sub to fit most superyachts’ decks and tender garages. It measures 124 x 95 x 68 inches, roughly 10 feet x 8 feet x 5’7” (315 x 241 x 172 centimeters). Total footprint: 81.8 square feet (7.6 square meters).
U-Boat Worx makes the Super Yacht Sub 3 able to dive to different depths, depending on your preference. You can order a 100-, 200-, or 300-meter depth rating. To put these into perspective, the shallower rating still exceeds traditional scuba depths. Regardless of depth, the submarine can stay below the surface for eight hours without the battery system needing recharging. The sub operates off a standard air compressor, too. And, you can explore at 2.8 knots underwater or on the surface.
Interior features of the sub include leather seating, air conditioning, and a stereo. If you’re boarding in a bit of a sea, the Super Yacht Sub 3 has what U-Boat Worx calls a Freeboard Extender. The entry hatch extends up a bit to keep you dry. (In the rendering above, note the center portion; this is the area that stays dry when waves start to kick up.) Optional upgrades include underwater lights, sonar, and a manipulator arm (for those buried-treasure expeditions you know you want to take).
U-Boat Worx says a two- to three-week training program will prepare one of your crewmembers to be the pilot. To make your overall crew’s job easier, a freshwater rinse should be all the Super Yacht Sub 3 needs following a dive trip. Once each year, U-Boat Worx will help arrange certification inspection. The Super Yacht Sub 3 is built to Det Norske Veritas-Germanischer Lloyd classification. It can also comply with flag state rules.
In related news, U-Boat Worx is revamping its other models. The C-Explorer series previously offered a variety of depth ratings for each sub. Now, there’s one depth per craft. The C-Explorer 2 can dive 100 meters, the C-Explorer 3 can go 300 meters, and the C-Explorer 5 can go 200 meters. The 600- and 1,000-meter C-Explorers will be discontinued and adapted to become new C-Researcher units, for the manned-sub market.
