The docks at Knight & Carver are practically buzzing right now. Not only is the San Diego-based refit and repair yard wrapping up the extensive renovation of Helios within the next several hours, but it’s awaiting the arrival of the world-famous Arctic P before the weekend. The latter, a 288-footer, is among the largest privately owned megayachts in the world, so she’s well known in yachting circles. Many folks in the rest of the world know her as well, due to the friendship her owner, Australian media baron James Packer, enjoys with actor Tom Cruise; the Hollywood star has been aboard a few times.
As if things weren’t busy enough at Knight & Carver with all of this going on, it gets busier. Word in the industry has it that within the next few weeks, the busy charter yacht Senses will show up, too.
Not too shabby for a company that was just honored as “Boatyard of the Year” by the American Boat Builders and Repairers Association. The award is given to a service or repair yard that, according to the organization, “demonstrates excellence in all facets of business through commitment to customer relations, quality management, positive employee and vendor relationships, regard for the safety of their employees and their customers, is a good steward of the environment, and innovatively employs technology to enhance their marine business.”
