Add a renowned American shipyard to the already-international PRIME Megayacht Platform. It’s Burger Boat Company, which should particularly appeal to North American and Latin American clients. In addition, Burger is working on a design with a legendary athlete whose love of yachting nearly matches his love of baseball.
Announced at the Monaco Yacht Show, the PRIME Megayacht Platform—PRIME for short—has a simple premise. Buyers who want semi-custom yachts shouldn’t have to settle for their project looking the same as others. (Most semi-custom offerings have fixed profiles, along with set technical platforms.) While each PRIME megayacht is a 162-foot (49.44-meter), all-aluminum yacht on a pre-engineered hull, styling is fully up to buyer choice. Select a vertical bow or a dramatically flared one, soft curves or sharp lines. You still benefit from a 29-foot (8.8-meters) beam and seven-foot (2.15-meter) draft. Furthermore, each PRIME megayacht should see range of about 4,000 nautical miles at 13 knots under MTU power.
Burger joins a geographically diverse group in building these yachts. Naval architecture is by a Dutch company, Azure Naval Architects. U.S.-based Luiz de Basto Designs and UK-based Reymond Langton Design, along with Azure, all tailor the superstructures the way you wish. They’ll further work with you on the interior design. As for the initial builder involved, it’s Bloemsma Yachts in The Netherlands. Bloemsma Yachts, formerly Bloemsma & van Breemen, is owned by Balk Shipyard, a fellow Dutch megayacht builder. Then there’s the New Yachts Company, a U.S.-based firm, which brought all the team members together and promotes the concept globally.
The first PRIME project is already in build, at Bloemsma Yachts. While Burger hasn’t signed a contract yet, it’s working with de Basto and a household name in the baseball world to design a proposal to attract interest. That household name: Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez (pictured, center, with Jim Ruffolo, at left, of Burger and Barin Cardenas of New Yachts). Rodriguez played for the Texas Rangers, Detroit Tigers, and New York Yankees, among others. He’s a 13-time Gold Glove and seven-time Silver Slugger recipient. Rodriguez is further a passionate boater, having owned speedboats, a 70-footer, and 118-footer over the years.
The PRIME Megayacht Platform team will unveil this design at the Yachts Miami Beach show in February.
