The ketch William Tai has been a global cruiser since she first touched water. In fact, under her original name Surama, the goal was not just to cruise the world, but also take on a variety of conditions. If ever there were a test of her mettle, her first cruise, in 1997, provided it. The 133-foot (41-meter) megayacht encountered gale-force winds en route to what her owner intended to be a relaxing first summer in the Mediterranean.
She came through with flying colors, thankfully. Yacht watchers around the world subsequently got a good first-hand look at this Royal Huisman. She visited ports from Cuba to New Zealand, for instance, and pretty much everywhere in between, following that first season.
The same person who currently owns her and has her for sale rechristened her William Tai. Additionally, he took her back to Royal Huisman for a refit, completed in 2010. This video reveals the pride with which her owner and crew have kept her, from her blue hull to her airy interior. But, best of all, there’s plenty of footage of William Tai in her element, out on the open water.
