Strand Craft is marking its first entry into the personal watercraft (PWC) market. The Strand Craft V8 Wet Rod should debut later this year.
You might recognize the Strand Craft name from the variety of concept designs it’s presented in recent years. The Strand Craft V8 Wet Rod, however, is the first project to go into production. (The Strand Craft megayacht series has not yet garnered a signed contract.)
The Strand Craft V8 Wet Rod measures 16 feet (about 4.9 meters) LOA. It’s being built of carbon fiber and epoxy, and should see a 65-mph top speed. Given “V8 Wet Rod,” it’s only natural that the engine is a 300-hp V8, coupled to a waterjet.
Strand Craft’s founder, Kurt Strand, partnered with a variety of professional PWC riders to develop the V8 Wet Rod. The above-mentioned speed is in line with what some well-known PWC models deliver. So, too, is the horsepower. Other specifications are further complementary. Strand says that the PWC’s dry weight will be 1,500 pounds. Load capacity (driver and gear weight) will be 600 pounds. The V8 Wet Rod will carry 30 gallons of fuel, too.
The Strand Craft V8 Wet Rod is available with a variety of standard and optional features. A waterproof stowage hatch for personal items and an under-seat icebox are both standard, for example. The PWC optionally offers a handful of style-related items. These include wood or carbon fiber trim, plus custom paint or wrapping. (Metallic paint is standard.) The Strand Craft V8 Wet Rod can also be ordered with a custom trailer, GPS, and stereo system. Gear heads among you might additionally be interested in the optional engine dress-up kit. Chromed accents, anyone?
Base price is $49,000. The V8 Wet Rod comes with a 12-month limited warranty.
