Prime dockage for “front-row” viewing. Attendance at the prize-giving ceremony. And tailor-made trips in and around Bermuda, for dining, shopping, golfing, and more. These will be part of the America’s Cup Superyacht Program when the race is held off the island nation next year.
The America’s Cup Event Authority has partnered with BWA Yachting to make the experiences possible. The two collaborated on the America’s Cup Superyacht Program in San Francisco in 2013.
For the festivities in May and June 2017, they’ve reserved about half of the berths for megayachts, spread over three locations. Two are in the capital of Hamilton: the Hamilton Princess Marina, and the America’s Cup Marina. The third is in the midst of the America’s Cup Village at the Royal Naval Dockyard, northwest of Hamilton. Both Hamilton and the Dockyard are on the Great Sound, where the race will take place. BWA Yachting is managing all three sites, providing dockmasters and line handlers.
Megayacht owners taking their boats to Bermuda for the America’s Cup Superyacht Program get a variety of benefits. VIP flags mean you can dock in the prime viewing areas. You additionally get entrance to parties and events, plus tours of the “pit lane” (racing yacht dockage). Furthermore, you can attend the press conferences held after the race, plus the Cup awarding ceremony. Each day throughout your stay, you’ll have access to Club AC, the hospitality area. BWA Yachting’s on-site team can also arrange for customs and immigration assistance, duty-free fueling, provisioning, and a variety of concierge services.
Berths are available from May 20 to June 30. (Earlier arrivals may be arranged by request.) May 20 puts you in Bermuda ahead of the qualifiers round. The 35th America’s Cup match takes place June 17 to 27.
The America’s Cup Superyacht Program brochure explains more. It also outlines the superyacht regatta and J Class regatta taking place in Bermuda at the same time.
