UPDATE, JULY 30, 2018: Icon now confirms the Icon 280 is indeed the original Icon 250, further available for sale. The rendering below shows the full profile. Read on for our original article.
A select group of guests recently got a first-hand look at one of Icon Yachts’ largest new builds. The Icon 280, the simple reference the Dutch builder is using, is still quite some time from completion. However, the styling leaves no doubt that yachting aficionados will recognize her.
The video here, from the builder, shows off the styling a few times. It’s immediately recognizable, the work of Tim Heywood, standing out for his signature hull-side curve.
A few years ago, you may remember that Icon announced two projects with Tim Heywood. One is called the Icon 250. An owner was initially attached to it, but that no longer is the case, given the listing on the builder’s website. It states that interior design is up to a buyer’s choice. Furthermore, it states that delivery can be within two years’ time. So, the Icon 280 could be the same yacht, given her state of construction. If you compare the renderings on Icon’s website to the under-construction yacht, you’ll see similar features.
For example, the superstructure juts out slightly in two places. The first is one deck up from the main deck. The other is yet another level up from there. Given the size of the latter extensions, they’re surely the wing stations for the Icon 280. The other extensions, meanwhile, are much larger, denoting fixed balconies. These balconies complement the master suite, boasting expansive views. Icon says the master is masterful indeed, occupying 1,356 square feet (126 square meters). Furthermore, the megayacht can accommodate a party of 12 if the yacht charters, but 19 if she sees strictly private use.
Even though it’s still bare metal, the piece de resistance is the aft-deck pool. The Icon 280 devotes healthy floor space to it, as you would expect. The pool appears to have an infinity edge, too. If Heywood’s original design still holds true, the pool will additionally have a waterfall, flowing gently from the deck directly above.
Meanwhile, Icon continues to focus on the megayacht refit market, too. In fact, in recent months, the Lürssen Global was among refit guests. Icon was additionally responsible for the major makeover of Sherakhan last year. To accommodate even more, and larger, refits, the builder is creating a new floating dock. When completed, it will measure about 426 feet (130 meters) long, as well as double Icon’s current capacity.
