The spread of coronavirus worldwide has resulted in event cancellations and postponements. In addition, it has resulted in growing concern over traveling abroad and domestically. However, due to guidance from government and health officials, organizers of the three upcoming Palm Beach yacht shows are proceeding with plans.
Specifically, the three shows are the Palm Beach International Boat Show (pictured), Superyacht Show Palm Beach, and The Superyacht Experience Palm Beach. The Palm Beach International Boat Show, entering its 35th year, is one of the five largest events of its kind nationwide. The Superyacht Show Palm Beach, an invitation-only event, is occurring for the first time. It takes place March 26 to 28 at the Flagler Museum. This is across the water from the Palm Beach International Boat Show. The Superyacht Experience Palm Beach, meanwhile, is also in its first year. It, too, is invitation-only, and takes place at Rybovich from March from March 26 to 29.
Informa, which produces two of the Palm Beach yacht shows, issued this statement:
Informa U.S. Boat Shows, organizers of the Palm Beach International Boat Show and Superyacht Show Palm Beach which take place March 26-29, continues to follow information and monitor the latest developments regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and are in close communication with the state and local Health Departments, governments and CDC. At this time there are no plans to cancel, postpone or move the shows. Organizers will have extra hand-sanitizing stations available and additional cleaning crews to keep all areas of the open-air event clean and sanitary. Organizers always will promote positive health tips to all exhibitors and attendees.
At press time, Florida had four confirmed cases of coronavirus. All were on the Gulf Coast of the state, too, not in Palm Beach County.
We reached out to the organizers of The Superyacht Experience Palm Beach, for commentary. We did not receive a response by press time, although the event is still active on its website.
Unfortunately, the growing number of coronavirus cases elsewhere, as well as travel bans, has impacted other boat shows. The Japan International Boat Show, which was set for earlier this month, was cancelled, for instance. The Taiwan International Boat Show, the Dubai International Boat Show, and the Singapore Yacht Show, though, all postponed to the fall. Originally, each was to take place this month as well.
