An experienced owner who has enjoyed cruising aboard a solar-panel-equipped yacht is seeing his similarly equipped superyacht take shape rapidly. GX Superyachts’ first GX42 yacht model is in build for him, and ahead of schedule.
GX Superyachts not only recently flipped the aluminum hull, but also joined the hull and superstructure together. This was on the heels of the keel laying about six months ago. The milestones took place at Turkey-based SES Yachts, which is serving as the build partner for GX Superyachts. GX Superyachts is Greenline Yachts’ leap into large hybrid- and solar-powered yachts, and the existing Greenline yard in Slovenia can’t accommodate projects exceeding 78 feet (24 meters). Greenline’s team chose SES Yachts for a few reasons. Among them, for instance, it’s family-owned. The family members, who further span two generations, are naval architects, too.

The 138-foot (42-meter) GX42 yacht, set for delivery next summer, will be hybrid powered and produce a maximum 27 kW of solar energy. Solar panels specifically will cover the entire low-slung superstructure, whose styling is by Marco Casali. A raised-pilothouse design, the megayacht should be able to cover 100 nautical miles in electric mode at 6 knots. For transatlantic crossings, meanwhile, traditional diesels will propel her to 12 knots. According to GX Superyachts, the GX 42 yacht should emit 60 percent lower carbon emissions than a diesel-only project of comparable dimensions. The NAMES studio is responsible for naval architecture.
As the renderings show, the GX42 yacht provides expansive alfresco areas close to the waterline. Bulkheads to each side additionally fold down, of course, for more space and a more open feel. Marco Casali is working with the owner to ensure that the interiors seamlessly let his guests move from out on deck to saloons and other enclosed areas. Foglizzo leather and furnishings from Poltrona Frau and Rugiano will be featured.

“The build is actually ahead of schedule, to the owner’s clear delight,” says Vladmir Zinchenko, GX Superyachts founder and owner. ”We are starting to show the GX42 to the many prospects who have expressed real interest in the GX Superyachts brand. It feels as if this incredible project has just taken a huge leap forward..”
