Thirty-five years ago, Amico & Co. began refitting megayachts in its shipyard in Genoa, Italy. Since then, the family-run company has been operating two more area boatyards focused on refit and repair, plus a marina. All have shared personnel and, to some extent, specialties. To unite them under one identity, the four properties will now use the name Amico Marine.
Each of the four companies is active in servicing yachts, though in different niches. For example, Amico & Co. has handled a wide variety of work ranging from painting to extensions and conversions since 1991. Its vast waterfront and upland presence allows it to have up to 35 yachts on site simultaneously, depending on LOA. A ShipLift system added several years ago and a covered telescopic drydock (below) aid in this regard. The size range it specializes in is equally broad, 115 to 459 feet (35 to 140 meters). Feadship is among its official partners.
Nearby in Genoa, Gatti is one of the two other boatyards. Its focus is the small end of the superyacht market, to 98 feet (30 meters), as well as tenders and production boats. The Amico family acquired it two years ago. Amico Loano, the second yard, is a purpose-built facility dating to 2011. It sits within the Loano Marina in the Italian city of Loano, strategically halfway between Genoa and Nice, France. Superyachts to 180 feet (55 meters) seek its assistance for repair, maintenance, and refit.

To provide captains and crews with not just a place to dock, but also a place to relax while their yachts are in the yards, the Amico family established Waterfront Marina. It, too, is in Genoa, walking distance from the city center and accommodating 26 yachts to 394 feet (120 meters). In fact, Amico & Co. faces it. For the past five years, it has housed the captains’ and crew’s concierge service, plus a variety of amenities. These include a gym, basketball courts, tennis courts, padel courts, and a barbecue patio.
“With the launch of Amico Marine, we aim to clearly and consistently represent our identity,” explains Alberto Amico, founder and partner of Amico & Co. That identity, he continues, is “a network of companies providing full technical and operational support to owners, crews, and managers at every stage of a superyacht’s life.” Bruno Guglielmini, Amico & Co.’s CEO, adds, “The Amico Marine system represents the evolution of our strategic vision and the result of the long growth journey of Amico & Co.”
The Amico family’s roots in maritime in the region date back to the 18th century. Matteo Amico, a master shipwright, opened a boatyard in Loano in 1799. His son, Giuseppe Francesco Amico, expanded expertise into building medium and large wooden sailing ships. In the 19th century, the family relocated to Genoa, having lost business due to the advent of steam ships and steel construction. However, Pietro Amico, a skilled woodworker, gained employment in the royal shipyards. His son Michele established the first Amico-named company in Genoa in 1885, focusing on port services.
