Clients asked, Moonen responded. There’s yet another model in the Caribbean series, bigger than the others but still beneath the 500-gross-tonnage threshold. Meet the Moonen Monito, measuring 162’4” (49.5 meters).
Like the rest of the Caribbean line of yachts, the Monito has a set technical platform to ensure a particular performance. It starts with a round-bilge steel hull. Moonen says she should see a 3,900-nautical-mile range at 11 knots, under Caterpillar power. She should also see a cruising speed of 16 knots at half load and with the engines at 85 percent of maximum rpm. Furthermore, the Monito has a shallower draft than most steel yachts. She draws just eight feet (2.45 meters), so you can visit the Bahamas and other skinny-water spots.
While you’re there, the Monito offers 3,767 square feet (350 square meters) of teak-laid alfresco space to enjoy. You can arrange these areas as you wish. One option that Moonen suggests is a bar on each deck, with four in total. Another idea is to have the tender bay, situated on the foredeck, double as a saltwater pool (above and below).
Surely, you’ll want the Monito to include a beach club. Loose furniture can make it a lounge-only area. Work with Moonen to make it a transformable area, alternately serving as a gym or a spa. Even the swim platform can be tailored to particular functions.
Each of the Caribbean series megayachts is for owners to personalize with their interior designers, and the Monito follows suit. You can keep with tradition and arrange accommodations for 12 people, plus 11 crew. (The captain gets a cabin aft of the wheelhouse.) In this case, your friends and family get five staterooms. If you don’t cruise with quite that crowd, the Monito can instead have four VIPs below decks. You can also lower the crew head count to eight. Regardless, 646 square feet (60 square meters) is yours on the main deck, occupying the 29’5” (9-meter) beam.
Moonen will build the first Monito, to Lloyd’s classification, on contract.
