While the Westport 164 has seen success for the Washington State-based Westport Yachts, the yard believed more could be done. The result is a larger version, 172 feet. The Westport 52M, a.k.a. Westport 172, is now joining the Washington State builder’s semi-custom megayacht lineup. She is a direct response to market requests for more amenities, and more space. Plus, she puts more flexibility at your disposal, especially in terms of converting staterooms into additional sitting rooms.
With a nearly 31-foot (9.39-meter) beam and a 7’9” (2.4-meter) draft, the Westport 52M is still an all-fiberglass yacht. Equally important to some potential buyers, she has a full-load displacement of 401 tons. This, therefore, allows her to comply with MCA requirements for chartering with 12 or fewer guests. She also meets ABS classification standards. Further to her engineering, the yacht keeps with Westport tradition for a turn of speed, too. Anticipate a top end of 21½ knots and a cruising speed of 19 knots with twin 3,386-hp Caterpillars. Also anticipate a 5,000-nautical-mile range when the engines dial back to 10 knots. That suits crossing any ocean.
When at anchor in northern or southern oceans, the Westport 52M can show off one of her distinguishing features, her beach club. This is something the Westport 164 does not have. After launching the primary tender via a cantilevered overhead crane, the crew can arrange loose furnishings inside and out. (Additional toys stow on the foredeck.) They can also slide a bar out toward the transom—one of three openings for the beach club. Suiting guests departing and arriving via tender, pop-up cleats are fitted in the port and starboard platforms, too.
Further suiting guests’ needs, the Westport 52M has a convertible VIP suite. Situated on the bridge deck, it has two sliding partitions, allowing it to open up for use as an expansion of the sky lounge. Stow the Murphy bed, and a modular settee can welcome those who want to watch TV or enjoy the view. Westport is including a Juliet balcony with a sliding weathertight door, to make the ambiance all the better.
With a main-deck master suite, including of course a balcony, and four additional guest staterooms below decks, the Westport 52M comes fully outfitted, like other Westports, with items ranging from china and linens.
Current customers of Westport got an early look at the design a few months ago. The shipyard is continuing to finalize suggested layouts for areas like the sundeck. Regardless, this is the first new model since the introduction of the Westport 125 in 2014. Hull number one in that series splashed in 2016. Westport continues to build its longstanding 112, which has dozens of deliveries to date, as well as its 130.
