Located in the Antalya Free Zone in Turkey, Sarp Yachts has splashed its first project. She’s simply called the Sarp 46, measuring 151 feet (46 meters).
Sarp Yachts has a purpose-built shipyard and is owned by a Turkish company in the food industry. The builder began the Sarp 46 on spec. She’s still available for sale, via the central agency of Northrop & Johnson. Sarp Yachts’ management believes that the lower cost of construction in Turkey, in combination with the megayacht’s steel hull and curvy composite superstructure, make her attractive on the market.
The Sarp 46 bears naval architecture by Tanju Kalaycıoğlu and interior design by Adam Lay Studio. While the latter is well-known, the naval architect’s name may not be familiar. He’s worked with yards such as Proteksan Turquoise, notably on Amphitrite, and Pendennis.
As for the interior of the Sarp 46, there are accommodations for 12 amid the 29’5” (9-meter) beam. She has a customary layout, including a main-deck master and saloons on both the main and upper decks. Adam Lay Studio was asked to create a contemporary decor incorporating natural elements. Ash wood, stained both a light silver and a dark grey, is used aboard, as is oak. Silks, leathers, carpets, and additional fabrics add more silver and grey colors, plus introduce tones of bronze.
The “natural” factor even comes into play other ways aboard the Sarp 46. There are small, smooth stones inlaid in the sole of the master bath. It should be as visually appealing as it feels underfoot. Furthermore, dividing screens in the saloon have glass etched with tree branches and leaves.
Just below the 500-gross-ton threshold, the Sarp 46 is built to ABS classification. Sarp Yachts anticipates a top speed just shy of 15 knots. Best range should be 3,200 nautical miles at a 12-knot cruise.
