Following its acquisition by the Palumbo Group, ISA Yachts’ expansion is making progress. In fact, by the end of June, a newly constructed build shed will be ready to welcome its first projects.
Palumbo Group officially acquired the defunct yacht yard in Ancona, Italy, last August. Just recently, it renamed the facility Palumbo Ancona Shipyard ISA. However, the ISA Yachts brand name remains.
The new shed is part of Palumbo’s new vision for the shipyard. The shed will be able to house two megayachts measuring more than 262 feet (80 meters) simultaneously. These are the focus because “market demand from owners is converging on big hulls,” according to ISA Yachts’ CEO, Giuseppe Palumbo. “We want to be ready to make the most of this challenge.” (On a related side note, prior to the acquisition, ISA Yachts was able to build big boats. However, its largest delivery was the 216-foot/66-meter Okto, delivered in 2014. The builder shut down operations the following year.)
A related challenge is upgrading the equipment. Already, ISA Yachts has a 560-ton-capacity yacht hoist. It’s a replacement for the 400-ton hoist previously in place. In addition, Palumbo Group is weighing whether to add a Syncrolift to a dry dock that’s under construction. That dry dock will accommodate megayachts measuring more than 197 feet (60 meters). It’s dedicated to refit and repair services. “Our goal is to strengthen our presence in the refit and maintenance market, so that after purchasing their yacht, owners can always rely on an efficient and complete after-sales service,” Giuseppe Palumbo explains.
In the meantime, work continues on other aspects of ISA Yachts’ expansion. This includes creating new guest quarters for clients’ project-management teams.
