Just as we humans sometimes need to find a new home, yachts do, too. The partially finished hull and superstructure of the secretive megayacht code-named Project Opera departed one floating bay for another in Germany a few days ago.
In build at Lürssen, the massive megayacht may measure as large as 479 feet (146 meters). The exact length remains confidential, because people associated with the project have kept a tight lid on details. The delivery date for Project Opera remains a question, too, among yacht watchers. It could be next year or 2023, though.
Another question is her real name. Some among the yacht-watching community, for instance, think it might be Sassi—although that, too, could be yet a further code name.
While yacht watchers wait (and hope) for details about Project Opera, Lürssen does have an upcoming launch available for more publicity. Specifically, it’s Moon Sand, a 182-footer (55.5-meter). Although her LOA is much smaller than a number of high-profile contracts at the yard over the years, “it is essential not to forget that our core business must be between 50 to 80 meters,” Peter Lürssen, Lürssen’s managing partner, has previously pointed out. Moon Sand features design by Bannenberg & Rowell and is set for delivery later this year.
