If Capt. Varun Raju’s testimony is any indication, the owners of Lusine are in for an enjoyable experience for months to come. “We tested her in sea state 5 with winds up to 30 knots, and she behaved very well,” the captain asserts. “Lusine is sturdy and gives me great confidence.”
The 197-footer (60-meter) started construction under the code name Project Falcon. Her keel laying took place in 2018, while her hull and superstructure came together in 2019. While her styling is from longtime Heesen collaborator Omega Architects, her enclosed volume, much higher than usual for her size, made her challenging for Heesen. Specifically, it’s about 1,600 gross tons, which exceeds even that of the 230-foot (70-meter) Heesen Galactica Super Nova. Peter van der Zanden, Heesen’s general manager of design, development, and engineering, explains, “our experience helped us find ingenious solutions and presented a solid foundation for intelligent innovation.”
One such creative solution is the tender garage. The owners wanted to take along a Boston Whaler as a tender. They further wanted it to launch relatively easily directly into the water from the garage. Lusine therefore has an integrated launch ramp. Additionally, to reduce emissions in compliance with IMO regulations, the yacht has an SCR system working with the twin MTUs. Briefly, the system injects a special substance into the exhaust of the diesel engines, turning the harmful nitrogen oxides into nitrogen, water, and carbon dioxide. SCR systems can be bulky, so even a large megayacht like Lusine necessitates thinking differently for engine-room design.
While the owners pursue cruising in tropical waters and elsewhere, they have five staterooms for friends and family to come along. Notably, two of these staterooms, a VIP and a twin, sit forward on the main deck. They connect to each another, too. The owners’ suite, meanwhile, occupies the aft portion of the bridge deck. Another nice touch: an air-conditioned reception area just off the touch-and-go helipad.
The staterooms and social areas feature an elegant décor from Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design. Heesen says it’s one of the most complex interiors that its in-house Heesen Yacht Interiors department has ever fulfilled. Intricate details characterize the woods, fabrics, and leathers.
Lusine is currently en route for her maiden voyage with the owners.
