The Raised Pilothouse (RP) Series at Horizon Yachts may be semi-custom, but the shipyard allows enormous customization. So much so, in fact, that the new Horizon RP125 yacht Vin Xan is custom from her hull design on up.
A repeat client from Australia commissioned the project, having enjoyed cruising aboard a Horizon RP100 for some time. The next model in the RP lineup is actually the RP120, whose styling and amenities the owner did like. However, he did want a few differences.
Significantly, the biggest change comes below the waterline. Traditionally, and similar to most motoryachts in this size range, the RP series features a semi-displacement hull. By contrast, the owner of the yacht Vin Xan wanted the performance characteristics of the High Performance Piercing Bow of Horizon’s FD Series. Briefly, it reportedly permits better efficiency at slower speeds, plus boosts performance at higher speeds.
Secondly, despite Horizon calling her a custom RP125, the yacht Vin Xan doesn’t actually have a raised pilothouse. The owner requested relocating it to the bridge deck it to allow higher ceilings and more space in the open-plan saloon and galley. Specifically, the galley has a walk-in refrigerator, something not seen on a megayacht of this size. Abundant stowage is included as well, especially because the owner enjoys cooking. Relocating the pilothouse additionally allows for bigger windows in the galley and other parts of the main deck.
In seeing the handrail along the stairs leading down to the lower-deck guest staterooms, you might not think much was customized, other than the leather wrapping around it. But, the entire handrail is actually movable. It repositions higher or lower at the press of a button depending on the guest need. As for guests, they get to use two VIPs and two twins, one of which includes a Pullman berth, As a nice added touch, the owner selected custom artwork for each stateroom door (above), too.
The tailored and unexpected touches continue elsewhere. For instance, this Horizon RP125 has a dayhead with a shower forward of the skylounge. The master suite, meanwhile, has a sunken en suite bath. Within the beach club/garage, the owner has stowage for diving and fishing gear, two of his favorite pastimes. Two different alfresco dining areas sit on the bridge deck. One is a typical dining table, for eight, toward the aft end. The other is the bar beneath the shade of the deck above, and right outside the skylounge.
Recently delivered, the yacht Vin Xan is entertaining guests in an ambience highlighted by South American walnut and ebony accents. As much as they intend to enjoy the outdoor settings, they’ll still enjoy being inside. The saloon has a striking onyx panel with LEDs surrounding a bar, the same stone on the aft-deck dining table and in the master suite. Finally, a Swarovski light fixture enhances the custom ebony dining table, for 10, forward of the saloon.
