With accommodations for 12 guests, two expedition specialists, plus her captain and 15 crewmembers, the yacht Pink Shadow sounds like she’ll put the “explore” in “SeaXplorer.” The third SeaXplorer 58 from Damen Yachting has set off on the first of many global adventures.
Since the SeaXplorer series has attracted strong interest, Damen Yachting started hull construction on spec. (On a related note, it started at Damen’s Turkish shipyard, a first for the semi-custom series.) The shorter delivery time strongly appealed to the owner, of course, as did the engineering concept. It’s based on the all-weather commercial craft that have taken shape at a variety of Damen yards for decades.
“The experience is not just about amazing views,” says Enrique Tintore, Damen Yachting’s SeaXplorer design manager. “It’s also about enjoying the ultimate adventure on land and at sea with the help of her many toys.” To that end, the owner commissioned her to carry motorcycles and more, including off- and on-road vehicles. Additionally, she’s toting a 37-foot (11.4-meter) sailboat. A further two multi-purpose tenders highlight how the yacht Pink Shadow embraces the spirit. Additionally, having an ice-class hull, at the owner’s request, means somewhat challenging exploration is in the cards. To ensure these and other sensitive zero-discharge environments stay clean, beefier wastewater stowage exists.
Mark Tucker of Design Unlimited, which customized the interior, says the owner had “a very distinctive vision.” Besides the already-mentioned cabins for expedition staff, the yacht Pink Shadow naturally has an observation lounge. It’s in the bow, just like other Damen Yachting SeaXplorer deliveries. Dining takes place on the sundeck, where the skylounge also sits. Amid the abundance of alfresco space, the superyacht has a cabana-like bar and lounge complementing an infinity pool. They all sit directly beneath a certified (not touch-and-go) helideck.
Pink Shadow, which will charter in the near future as well, “is a beautiful and inspiring space to experience the world,” Tintore asserts.
