Given the continuing enthusiasm for cruising off the beaten path, Damen Yachting is cutting the first plates of steel for its latest intrepid project, the SeaXplorer 60. The shipyard also chose to start the expedition yacht on spec, for delivery in 2024.
The yard revealed the SeaXplorer range in 2015. Two are already in their owners’ hands, too. Anawa and La Datcha both saw delivery in 2020. A handful of other designs are in build or on the drawing boards.
Similar to all of them, the SeaXplorer 60, a 197-footer, features engineering by the yard’s own staff, wrapped in styling by Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture. The hull meets the IMO’s Polar Code requirements for navigating in ice. The megayacht also has stowage and tank capacities to keep her independent of shoreside facilities for 30 days.
There’s further a deliberate blend of strong, assertive looks and luxury areas with strong backbones. For instance, the SeaXplorer 60 has a fully certified helideck, not a touch-and-go platform. It doubles as an immense 1,615-square-foot (150-square-meter) party platform for about 100 guests, too. Or, it can be a basketball half court with quite the view. Regardless, directly beneath it, owners can dedicate space for a personal submarine and a mini armada of tenders to about 34 feet (10.5 meters). That tender garage can include craft for use on land as well, like snowmobiles.
Since the SeaXplorer 60 is in the early construction stages, customers have good opportunity to request custom touches. Diving enthusiasts might want a dedicated dive center, for example, amid the 3,000 square feet (195 square meters) of covered alfresco space. Someone else might want an indulgent spa, or cabana-like area with a bar.
Inside, meanwhile, the staterooms for a party of 12 are entirely customizable as well. H2 Yacht Design, invited by Damen Yachting, suggests warm woods and bold colors throughout the 36-foot (11-meter) beam.
