“We loved our FD92, but the new Crowned Eagle is even better!” That’s the type of feedback builders and designers live for, especially from repeat clients. It’s just what Horizon Yachts received from an American couple, too. The pair who’ve cruised aboard that FD92 for several years recently completed their maiden voyage aboard their new Crowned Eagle yacht, the fifth hull of the Horizon FD110 series.
The couple first became Horizon customers because the shipyard allowed them full customization despite having series builds. In fact, they initially liked the Horizon FD87 but wanted some changes, which led to creating hull number one of the Horizon FD92 series. For instance, they wanted a trideck design, two helms, and extra entertaining space.
Three years later, and many enjoyable cruises to the Bahamas and elsewhere, the couple have their new Crowned Eagle in their hands. The Horizon FD110 series appealed on several fronts. Firstly, she’s a trideck, and of course has more space. The uppermost deck has abundant settees, sunpads, and a bar. The foredeck, meanwhile, has more sunpads, a hot tub, and dining/cocktails at sunset space. Inside, the configuration allows for five staterooms, including a main-deck master suite, along with an enclosed skylounge and a beach club.
Given their experience tailoring and cruising aboard their previous Horizon, the Crowned Eagle yacht owners had several special requests this time around as well. A laundry room sits amid the guest staterooms, making the standard laundry in the crew area a private one. Additionally, the skylounge has an asymmetric shape and includes a day head. In the wheelhouse just forward, meanwhile, a raised settee lets guests interact with the captain while the yacht is underway. Notably, a hi-lo partition behind the settee (above) lets the wheelhouse somewhat become open to the skylounge. A door does the same thing. Even when it’s closed off, though, the skylounge opens up to the boat deck, where guests can enjoy a bar and dining area. Even more entertaining space becomes available fully aft here when the tender goes in the water.
With a heavy emphasis on cruising and entertaining, the Crowned Eagle yacht owners wanted good spaces for their six-person crew. Therefore, the galley has a big center island, plus a fold-down table in a nook for the chef or chief stew to plan menus. Doors to both side decks make provisioning and serving the foredeck easier, too. Plus, a hi-lo partition (beautifully etched as well) between the galley and dining area ensures swift meal service and a more casual or formal ambience as the situation warrants.
As mentioned, feedback from happy repeat clients is always a good sign for a shipyard. Furthermore, there’s a similar good sign for the clients themselves. Horizon’s own craftspeople created a backlit feather etching to adorn a bulkhead in the guest foyer below decks.
