For nearly seven decades, the Comitti family has been hand-crafting custom boats on the shores of Lake Como, Italy. The boats are as picturesque as the shipyard setting, belonging to hands-own boaters and superyacht owners coveting Italian flair and classic design. Wide-ranging customization is yet another attraction. With the opening of Comitti North America, American owners can get aboard a few of the models in U.S. waters and commission a boat completely around how they enjoy the cruising lifestyle.
Comitti North America has its headquarters in Saratoga Springs, New York. It’s building a dealer network in markets like the Hamptons, Palm Beach, and California’s Newport Beach, too. Father-and-son team Christopher and Chris Mackey, with a background in luxury automobiles, run the operations. “We recognized a unique opportunity to fill a niche in the North American marine market with Comitti boats,” says Chris Mackey. He believes customers especially will appreciate how they can tailor each boat “to the most granular level.” Whether it’s the hull color, wood finishes, or “special features like champagne dispensers or a built-in ‘Bourbon Bar,” he continues, “these hulls are a blank canvas.”
Comitti boats range from 22 to 42 feet (6.7 to 12.8 meters). Currently, Comitti North America has a few models on hand. Firstly, the One 780 is a 25-foot (7.8-meter) bowrider-style craft for eight passengers, and can include a big sunpad. As part of the builder’s longstanding focus on performance, she tops out around 40 knots. Secondly, the Isola 33 (above) is a 32-foot (9.9-meter) center console offering a variety of engine packages. Depending on your need for speed, the boat can achieve a maximum of 52 knots. Lastly, Comitti North America has a highly customized version of the Venezia 28 (top). This is one of the most popular models, in fact. She has styling nods to famous European runabouts—including those of Comitti—from the 1960s and 1970s. As for her performance, she cruises in the low 30s and tops out around 48 knots depending on power.
Comitti North America further has access to other models in the United States and can arrange viewing appointments. Look for Comitti North America to exhibit at the Newport International Boat Show in Rhode Island next month and the Palm Beach International Boat Show in Florida next March.
Due to the custom nature of construction, the North American production run will be a maximum of 20 boats annually.
