In a year marked by an increase in the number of superyacht regattas, the Perini Navi Cup remained a favorite. Sixteen yachts registered to attend, seven of which vied for the title of winner. The first film looks of the race, which took place in September, have just been released.
For the sixth year running, the Perini Navi Cup attracted both experienced competitors and newly delivered yachts. Specifically, they were Clan VIII, Elettra, Jasali II, Maltese Falcon, Perseus^3, Rosehearty, and Seahawk. An additional eight Perini Navi sailing superyachts were in attendance as spectators, including Helios and Xnoi. The Picchiotti motoryacht Exuma, fresh from a circumnavigation, also came to cheer on the competitors.
Racing took place in waters off the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in Sardinia. The yacht club itself played host to various evening activities, from a cocktail competition to a gala dinner and, of course, the awarding of prizes. Rosehearty took the Cup, with famed professional yachtsmen Paul Cayard as her tactician and Chris Draper at the wheel. She edged out Clan VIII by mere seconds overall. Seahawk came in third.
The next Perini Navi Cup is set for 2017. Get a taste of the potential action—along with the fun of the after-parties—here:
