Many of us think of interior design as being nearly exclusively aesthetics. Obviously, we want our homes and floating homes to look nice. But, interior design must also take comfort, a.k.a. livability, into account. The owner and design teams behind Sea Coral 2, the third Arcadia A105 megayacht, truly took this to heart. Here’s how they made the megayacht as physically comfortable as she is emotionally.
Having collaborated with multiple owners over the years, Arcadia Yachts has forged relationships with many top brands. As Francesco Ansalone, the marketing and communications manager, explains, this lets them “make suggestions to owners and assist them in a careful selection.” Alain Perrier, the designer that the owner of Sea Coral 2 chose, says he appreciated working with the team. “The Arcadia A105 represents the art of experiencing relaxation, comfort, and safety,” he adds. “That’s why I wanted to preserve the spirit and concept of the shipyard, while adding the owner’s personality through the décor.” It’s especially notable here on the aft deck. The Roda alfresco seating incorporates galvanized metal. Simultaneously, it’s practical because it’s lightweight, therefore easy to rearrange. Of course, it also uses outdoor fabric. Plus, the bold Klein Blue color (named for painter Yves Klein) echoes the sea.
Spot lights have dominated yachting ceiling design for decades. The owner of Sea Coral 2 didn’t want them. Instead, a Quasar Holland sculptural light combines with the high-gloss white overhead to create a more relaxing starry-sky effect. Additionally, the designers chose the overall colors in this multi-function saloon—capable of being the dining area in case of inclement weather—to mimic the white of clouds in the sky.
Fully forward on the main deck, the owner wanted another multi-function area. This room can be a second VIP stateroom, due to a sofa bed, or an office. Since it’s mostly an office that gets a lot of use, an ergonomic Maxalto chair (to port) presses into service. Plus, the pouf-like coffee tables move easily.
Yet another Maxalto chair—identical to the one in the office/VIP—sits in the master suite. The armchair (pictured), meanwhile, from Cassina appealed to the owner because the felt fabric is cool to the touch. He finds it quite comfortable, too. Finally, the contrast between the orange furnishings and the blue carpeting creates a cheery atmosphere.
