Boat-show season officially kicks off next month. The first major event on the megayacht show calendar comes September 28 to October 1, the Monaco Yacht Show. First held in 1991, it has become an annual must-attend. This year, nearly 600 exhibitors will be on hand, and 125 megayachts have berths booked. Forty of those megayachts are making their global debuts.
If you’ll be attending the event, here are 10 of those 40 that you can arrange to visit:
* Galactica Super Nova: at 230 feet (70 meters), the newest delivery from Heesen Yachts (pictured above) is among the biggest megayachts at the Monaco show. Creature comforts include an alfresco cinema on the foredeck, when it’s not in use as a helipad. There’s also a waterfall flowing into her aft-deck pool. The glass bottom of the pool sheds more light into the beach club below.
* Sybaris: also 230 feet (70 meters), this significant-size ketch is the largest sailing yacht ever built in Italy. She comes from Perini Navi. But really, she comes from the imagination of a yacht- and life-loving cruiser. He had a major hand in planning every space aboard, wanting guests (and himself) to have fun.
* Mondomarine M60: while her name isn’t listed, this megayacht is likely Sarastar, given the LOA of 198 feet (60.22 meters). Styling and interior design is by Luca Dini. Scant details are available, though she has accommodations for 12 in the owners’ party.
* Quinta Essentia: another experienced megayacht owner commissioned Quinta Essentia (below) from The Italian Sea Group. Measuring 180 feet (55 meters), she’s themed around the natural elements of air, earth, fire, and water. She also has hybrid propulsion for efficient and silent operations.
* Elixir: fold-down balconies in the master suite and saloon, plus a sauna in the beach club, are among the attractions of Elixir. The latest Amels 180, she’s available for charter this coming winter season in the Caribbean, too.
* Giaola-Lu: the 154-foot (46.8-meter) Giaola-Lu accommodates a big family that enjoys traveling together. The owner had never built a custom yacht before, and therefore didn’t feel obligated to follow traditional layouts. For example, guests can help themselves in the galley. Bilgin Yachts delivered her just a few weeks ago.
* Wider 150: this is Wider Yachts’ first megayacht. Folding platforms flanking the transom open up the beach club as more of an indoor-outdoor space. Diesel-electric propulsion means she can run solely on battery power, too.
* Jetsetter: built on spec, Jetsetter is the first project from Dynamiq. The 127-footer (38.6-meter) has a fast-displacement hull form and pod drives for efficiency. Dynamiq’s philosophy is to let buyers customize their yachts, from hull color to crew uniforms, via its online configurator.
* Kamino: at 110 feet (33.5 meters), Kamino is unusually small for a Feadship. She’s one of a handful of similarly-styled megayachts commissioned simultaneously, however. The large glass panes lining her main deck make her stand out.
* Crossbow: part of the SW102 series from Southern Wind Shipyard, Crossbow is a performance cruiser with a raised-saloon configuration. There’s a sense of volume aboard, thanks to high overheads and light-tone oak paneling.
The Monaco Yacht Show has additional experiences complementing the yacht displays. One is the Car Deck, a showcase of luxury cars, some of which you can buy or test drive. Another: the Sapphire Experience. Introduced two years ago, it provides a tailored tour of the show, limited to 100 people, for those interested in chartering or buying a megayacht.
