In build since 2015, Heesen Yachts’ first fast-displacement motoryacht with hybrid propulsion is now named Home. Previously known as Project Nova, she launched and celebrated her christening ceremony today at the shipyard—along, of course, with her owner and the yard staff. Heesen broke the news on Facebook, further sharing these photos.
Featuring all-aluminum construction, Home should be an extra-fuel-efficient performer. Heesen anticipates a fuel burn of just 33 gph (98 lph) at 12 knots without her gensets operating. That’s about a 30-percent savings over traditional-hulled yachts of her size. At that same speed, range should be 3,750 miles, in keeping with similar-size displacement yachts. She’ll do this with a pair of 805-hp MTU 12V 2000 M61s, a lower power output compared to similar-size displacement yachts. As for the “electric” in her diesel-electric system, the two gensets and electric shaft motors should allow Home to achieve 9 knots. That should drop fuel burn to 12 gph (45 lph).
The diesel-electric system also promises to make Home a quiet cruiser. At the above-mentioned all-electric-mode speed, she should have sound levels in the saloon akin to a library, or a bird call. The levels are lower than that of normal conversation. Even in diesel mode, the results will be lower as well. When Heesen announced the project, it revealed it had done extensive research into how sound can enhance or disturb enjoyment, including disrupt the ability to taste foods properly.
When Project Nova sold last year, the owner decided to collaborate with Cristiano Gatto Design for the interior. With accommodations for 12 people, Home has areas you’d expect to find. They include a bar inside the beach club. All five guest staterooms sit below decks, too, with the master on the main deck. They all reflect a contemporary, somewhat minimalistic decor. In fact, Gatto revealed at the time that two tones would make for much of the atmosphere. Even with that, though, bold colors like burgundy and red serve as accents. Geometric patterns lend an element of drama, too.
