For a good part of 2008, Pendennis was quietly working on a semicustom motoryacht design on spec. Part of the goal was to create a British-built and British-designed semicustom line as a follow-up to the Pendennis 95, a semicustom sailing yacht series. So, the UK-based yard tapped Reymond Langton Design and Nigel Irens Design to help achieve what you see here, the Phantom 45m, which was revealed at the Monaco Yacht Show and is currently in development.
While the Reymond Langton team is well known in the megayacht market for sleek exterior styling and luxurious interiors, Nigel Irens, principal of his eponymous company, is likely a new name for many. But his credentials are well established: He’s designed some truly astounding multihull racers (Google “Francis Joyon,” and you’ll see Idec 2, one of his projects). He’s also designed more traditional cruising boats.
Together with Pendennis, the dynamic designers are giving the 147’6″ Phantom an equally dynamic appearance. Check out the knife bow, contributed by Reymond Langton. Now picture the yacht cruising on Irens’ hull at an expected 18 knots, powered by twin 1,300-hp Caterpillar engines.
Inside, four guest staterooms and the master suite will reportedly be simple yet stylish. Other than crew’s quarters for eight, no other specifics on rooms were given, though I imagine there will be the traditional saloon, separate dining room, and skylounge. An integral swim platform and a mini armada of toys and tenders are all being accounted for, too.
Even with this many plans in place, Pendennis is still allowing for an owner to put his or her stamp on the interior of the Phantom 45m.
